The Municipal Clerk is entrusted with numerous and diverse duties under both State law and local ordinances. Per the state, the Clerk is the secretary to the governing body, secretary to the municipal corporation, the local election official and registrar of voters, and an administrative official at the municipal government level. Under local ordinances, the Clerk processes various permits, licenses, applications, and water/sewer payments. In addition, the Clerk’s office maintains records including all resolutions, ordinances, agendas, contracts, and minutes for the municipality. Due to the population of the Point, the Clerk is the Registrar of Vital Statistics processing and maintaining all birth, marriage and death records for events that occur within our municipal borders.

Please review the Map of Cape May Point to ensure that your desired location is within our municipal boundaries. Popular locations for ceremonies in our area that ARE NOT in Cape May Point include Sunset Beach, the Lighthouse and State Park beaches. Questions related to these areas should be directed to the State Park at (609) 884-2159 for ceremony information and Lower Township at (609) 886-2005 for marriage licensing information.
All special events, including weddings, which are held on Borough property (parks, beaches, etc) require the completion of a Facilities use Application, A Hold Harmless/Indemnification Agreement and the submission of a Certificate of Insurance. This paperwork and the required checks must be received at least 30 days in advance of the event and require formal approval of the governing body at a regularly scheduled borough meeting. If you do not have liability insurance, you can purchase a one-day policy from your own insurance agent or from GatherGuard.
Fees include a $50.00 application fee and a refundable $250.00 deposit. Your deposit will be returned to you following your event contingent upon a satisfactory inspection by the Department of Public Works; the area must be returned to its natural condition with all debris removed. Please read Conditions for Special Events which summarizes the various restrictions and regulations when using public property to aid you in determining if your activies are permissible.
