An important component of the newly signed Mayors' Monarch Pledge is planting milkweed in our community. This is critical since milkweed serves as the only "host" plant for Monarch caterpillars. Without milkweed there would be no Monarch butterflies!
The Environmental Commission invites Cape May Point residents to be a part of the work of the Mayors' Monarch Pledge by adding milkweed to your garden. Any homeowner who wishes to receive FREE Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is encouraged to pick up your complimentary plant at the Public Works Maintenance building on Lighthouse Avenue.
The plants will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis. If any of the 150 plants are leftover, they will be planted in Pavilion Circle Gardens, thanks to Bedfellows who have offered space in their bed at the Circle.
We thank you for your continued commitment to help reverse the dramatic decline of Monarch butterflies.
